Our 2nd Annual Flip You, Leukemia! Charity Flip Cup Tournament and bone marrow drive yesterday was a huge success! Team Haupt and friends registered more than 100 new potential bone marrow donors and the turnout and donations  for Flip You was simply amazing. Especially thrilled that Jonathan could be there in person and help to kick off the event.

Our thank to the teams and fans alike for being part of the day, to our fantastic crew of volunteers for making it possible, to DKMS for its amazing work helping leukemia patients find their matches, and to the great team at RFD for once again letting us host the event.  Most of all, we want to thank Flip You co-captains, Whitney & Linnea, for organizing the events and ensuring its even bigger success the 2nd time around. It would not have been possible without you!

Funds raised will go to support Team Haupt’s ongoing bone marrow drives and awareness raising efforts and to helping fellow blood cancer patients (like Tara and Lindsay) who are still searching for their lifesaving marrow matches. Check out Team Haupt’s video as well — thanks to Joe A)!

One of the best organizations we’ve gotten involved with the past year is i[2]y — I’m Too Young for This! — that provides support, humor and an amazing community for young adults living with cancer — and is the home of The Stupid Cancer show.

Give Cancer the Bird is one of i[2]y’s fantastically sarcastic awareness initiatives. Zac Efron has jumped in as their celeb spokesperson with an contest going on now for the largest group twitpic giving cancer the bird. We were so proud to have everyone at yesterday’s Flip You, Leukemia! tournament join in the action by putting on their Stupid Cancer bracelets and helping Team Haupt flip off cancer!

 Join us tomorrow for our first bone marrow drive of 2010 and 2^nd Annual Flip You, Leukemia! Charity Flip Cup Tournament. Help Team Haupt Save Lindsay & Tara and Say Flip You, Leukemia! 

You don’t have to play flip cup to attend — fans and friends of Team Haupt are encouraged to drop by throughout the afternoon to show their support, get involved with the drive and cheer on the teams. Saturday’s donor drive is in honor of young adult cancer ninjas like our friends Lindsay and Tara who are battling blood cancer and still searching for the full marrow match to save their lives.

Two young adult friends of Team Haupt are also fighting blood cancers.  Tara has AML and Lindsay has Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.  Both of them need our help right away.  With your donations and participation on the national bone marrow registry will help their fight.

The big 100 milestone is finally here. It’s Day 100 post-transplant for Jonathan! And with spring finally hitting DC, it truly feels like we’re ready to celebrate.  There are hundreds of reasons we are thankful for each and every one of you out there, and we’re hoping you’ll help us keep up the fight and continue to raise awareness about bone marrow donation in the coming weeks and months. Here’s how you can help Team Haupt: say “Flip You, Leukemia!”

What: “Flip You Leukemia!” Charity Flip Cup Tournament
When: March 27, 2010
Where: RFD-810 7th St. NW, Washington, DC 20001 (with a private entrance on 8th Street)
Time: Check in starts at 2pm, with first flip at 3pm
Cost: $10 donation per person if you are playing (this covers the cost of your beer during the games, if you wish to drink on the side you will need to purchase those separately). $5 for Fans and Friends of Team Haupt. *Drink specials will be available*

If you are interested in being a volunteer (judge, beer runner, or someone to keep Whitney calm) please let us know! Our last event was a great success as many of you may (or may not) remember and with your help we raised close to $1000 for Team Haupt! We will be back at RFD again with more fun, more raffles and of course more flips!

New this year, we will be hosting a bone marrow drive from 12-2pm in honor of Jonathan and other patients like him at RFD. So, please come early to register to become a bone marrow donor. Remember, a simple swab can save a life!

Please visit our Facebook page and post the name of your team on the event’s wall to reserve your spot. Team t-shirts and costumes are highly encouraged and may be rewarded. So, grab a team of 5 and we hope you and your friends, neighbors, enemies, and your mom will join us to help Flip Off Leukemia!
