A Little FLAM Fever

It’s been an eventful week on the Team Haupt front. Jonathan was released from Hopkins a week ago Friday, late in the day after the Orioles came to visit. We headed home to Silver Spring, but he restarted daily outpatient appointments the next day, so didn’t get too much of a break from Baltimore.

Jonathan was released with very low counts, so spent all week feeling pretty lousy and battling spiking fevers, not unusual when your neutrophils are just starting to kick back in. But Thursday his temperature climbed all the way to 106+ and he was readmitted to Hopkins. He has an infection that is being aggressively treated but thankfully no signs of pneumonia, something that could really delay transplant timing. Right now, we’re just waiting this out until the antibiotics can do their job and he’s in shape to head home again. Jonathan’s keeping everything in perspective, viewing this not so much as a setback but more as a hiccup you’ve just gotta ride  out…

Jonathan’s original transplant date at the beginning of November has been pushed back to the end of the month so he can regain his strength and be in top fighting condition in time for the big day. We’ll keep you all posted.

So sorry to read about this setback but what a great perspective that this was a hiccup. It is such a long journey with lots of hiccups and I’m certain this outlook will help you to bounce back faster.

I know the haplo transplant is scheduled but am not clear if this is a done deal… Or if a 10/10 match is located at any time before it will the doctors move forward with a new match or stick to the haplo transplant?

Either way, whatever is the best for you is what I hope transpires.

Keeping you in my prayers Jonathan.

    Hi Jonathan,
I’m glad to get an update about you at your website. It sounds like things are going pretty well.

How nice that you had such a great nurse on 5-C and what a nice visit from the Orioles!

Thinking of you and wishing you and your family the best!
